The Game

Where, oh where, did my endurance go?

This thought crossed my mind many-a-time during our soccer game last night. You’re wondering if I made an idiot of myself after all, aren’t you…

Well, yeah… I kinda did.

I subbed in and ran out to the field. Soon after, I found the ball at my feet. Almost as quickly as that happened, I tripped over the ball and fell on my booty. I did earn our team a penalty kick, though, so that’s something.

Not too long after that, I fell again, except I’m not sure there was even a ball involved that time. The ground jumped up and grabbed my feet, I swear.

Overall, I don’t think I made a complete idiot of myself, but I did have plenty of missed opportunities, bad passes, misplaced cockiness, and holy crud was I beat. At one point, I was actually afraid I was going to throw up.

It was a good wake up call, though and extremely motivating to find that athletic part of me that I’ve been missing for quite a while. I’m looking forward to our game next week, because I think I’ll have a better grasp of how to play again and know how to pace myself better too.

I got to take a couple shots on goal too!

Oh, and the end of the game was intense, I tell ya, intense.

Both teams were totally worn out. Our opponents violated the three line rule, so we got to take a penalty kick. I was given the ball. After a “Uh, where do I put it” moment when I forgot the rules of indoor penalty kicks, I placed the ball on the line and geared up to make the best kick ever.

The clock ticked down.

“Six seconds!” my teammates yelled.

This was my chance, my opportunity to prove myself and right the blunders I had made in the game. I wound up and kicked the ball…

Right into the foot of someone on the other team.

A little anticlimactic? Yeah.

We won, though! (And I’m trying not to recognize the fact that the majority of goals made were when I wasn’t on the field.)

All kidding aside, it was a blast, and I am super excited to do it again next week.
