For Kyli (and all my twin mamas)
A little somethin’ for the evening.
Kyli wrote a comment on my blog today telling me she’s 33 weeks pregnant with twins and on bedrest. So, for her and anyone else who’s pregnant or on bedrest or has twins, or just really wants to see cute pictures, this one is for you.
Flat out, I’m going to be straight with you: Bedrest sucks.
Sure, it’s important, it’s amazing that you’re sacrificing your sanity for your baby already. But, that doesn’t mean it isn’t cruddy sometimes.
Don’t let anyone tell you, “Just you wait until your little ones get here, you’ll wish you were still on bedrest!”
No.
You won’t.
When you’re huge and can’t see your feet… no, a foot in front of your feet, your back hurts, you can’t sleep a lick, and you just want a friggin’ glass of wine, don’t let anyone tell you, “You’ll miss this! It’ll be more difficult once the babies are here! You’re getting much more sleep now than you will later.”
That’s all a lie.
When the babies are here, you’ll get a higher quality of sleep because you’ll be comfortable. And, when you’re getting up in the middle of the night, it’ll be to snuggle with beautiful babies.
So…
Do: Write letters to your unborn babies to pass the time.
Don’t: Feel bad about wishing you weren’t in your current position.
Do: Color on your belly with non-toxic paints and markers because it’s really fun.
Don’t: Use permanent markers, silly.
Do: Email me with requests for stories you’d like to hear or pictures you’d like to see.
Don’t: Listen to the defeatists who tell you “It could be worse.” You have my permission to mentally punch those people. (Mentally…)
In the meantime, imagine the hospital. Two warmers waiting for your womb-mates to emerge.

Imagine when the first little one emerges and you hear that little squeak! That sweet little squeak that is going to get under your skin when he’s two years old and throwing a tantrum, but right now, it’s beautiful.
Imagine staring into your babies’ faces for the first time and snuggling them next to each other in the bassinet.

Imagine bringing those babies home. Putting them in their cribs. Taking ridiculous amounts of pictures. (Though I don’t recommend this action… twin doggie-style is never appropriate.)
Imagine that first time they flash those gummy smiles at you and you swear it is not gas, no matter what all those other know-it-all moms say.
Imagine walking into their bedroom and seeing this:

I know, right?!
It’s true, the bedrest will end. Your babies will grow and this time will seem like a small blip in the whole scheme of things. But right now is where you are. Right now, I’m wishing you a happy, healthy pregnancy.
If there’s any way I can make you giggle and help you pass the time while you’re on bedrest, please let me know!
