Tree Farm Cheaters

It was around the time when kid #2 came along that I gave up the idea of going to a farm every year to chop down our own tree. That was what I had grown up doing and I have fond memories of candy canes and coco and that freshly cut tree smell. When the twins came along, any inkling of tree farm hope I had held disappeared. Love my kids and their busy-ness… don’t love the idea of going out in the freezing cold to a super muddy farm to try and pick out a tree while simultaneously trying to chase down runaway two-year-olds and prevent them from getting stabbed by wayward saws or otherwise injured by stumps or other random tree farm paraphernalia.

I haven’t watched TV all week. I have flipped the channel every single time any 9-11 coverage has come on. It isn’t to shield my kids from the terror. It isn’t because I’m not patriotic. It isn’t because I don’t want to remember.

I cannot believe the incredible fortune I have been granted in these past several years. On a whim, I started a blog after my now 5-year-old was born. Turned out, people liked reading it, so I kept writing. I joined a forum for writers like me. I made a few bucks when I began writing content articles. I won a few contests. I became published in several books. Crazy. Awesome. Wow.

I love my daughter. She’s funny, she’s sweet and truthfully, sometimes, I am even a little envious of her amazing blue eyes and completely perfect wavy blond hair.

It was a text conversation between my mom and me that broke the camel’s back. I was having the worst week I had yet experienced as a parent. We had all caught some yucky bug. We had been trapped in the house. Even when we were on the mend, it seemed to be getting worse. Monday night, I was up every other hour between Lily wetting the bed, Wyatt screaming bloody murder, and Lily screaming. I suspected ear infections.

Hi friends!

I have quite the story to tell you… it involves a totally spontaneous road trip with my four kiddos. Lots of shenanigans, lots of fun.

But, it’s going to wait for a bit. The kids and I needed a change of scenery and a vacation, so I’m going to be MIA for the next week or so to spend some good, quality time with my tikes and my mom.
