I slept 11 hours (& our church rules).

Immediately after I blogged last night, I fell asleep on the couch next to Clint who has, for some reason that still remains a mystery to me, decided to start playing Shining Force on the Sega Genesis again. Yes, Sega. Like, the old-school video game console. Sonic the Hedgehog style. (Warning: Digression ahead.) One thing I find incredibly comforting is falling asleep on the couch. It took a long while of being married before Clint understood that.... Read More

Sick Day & A Face Injury

Last night and this morning have been rough. It started off well, though. Clint and I had a lovely time ignoring our To Do list. We watched a stand-up comedy show, sipped on yummy beverages, and then retired to the bedroom to slip into something a little more naked… only to be greeted by the sound of Zander screaming. He has a cold, but he also took a spill yesterday that raked up his nose, so every time he tried to rub his nose, it hurt. Plus,... Read More

The Vicious Cycle

Sleep. It’s my most treasured getaway and my biggest enemy. Lately, sleep and I have been having issues. We’ve always had a tumultuous relationship, but lately it seems to be even more so. Case in point: I’m writing this, on my phone, in bed, while my husband snores lightly beside me. It’s 12:45am. My alarm is set to go off in 4 hours and 25 minutes. Read More  Read More

Seattle Half Marathon & My Ugly Mind {Part I}

Two months ago today, I struggled through my first two mile run. Sunday, I ran and finished the Seattle Half Marathon. Even typing those words, I can’t fully wrap my mind around it. I have a little secret, though: I hated it a little bit. I realized where my thoughts can go when I’m struggling and lemme tell ya, it wasn’t pretty. Read More  Read More

The Luxurious Virus

The second a mother first holds her baby, she should automatically be granted super-human immunity. Just my opinion. We, as mothers (okay dads, you can be in on this too), shouldn’t be susceptible to cold, flu,  or any other virus. (Or lice. Let’s put lice in that category too.) It is miserable to be sick and to have to also parent kids who may or may not also be sick. Unfortunately, the sickness timing is rarely optimal. As far as I’ve... Read More

Recurring Dream

For the past week, I have had this recurring dream. It’s very short, extremely simple, and every morning after I woke up, it baffled me. I was standing at the foot of stairs that lead to a house in a neighborhood near where I grew up. It was a neighborhood I was rarely in, except for Trick-Or-Treating. I stood at the foot of the stairs, looking up at the house. It was dark. The stairs to the door seemed endlessly long. It took me a whole week... Read More

MomTransit Rule #3: NO SLEEPING!

There are only a few rules that must be followed on MomTransit: 1. Mom chooses the music. I don’t do Barney. I don’t do Wee Sing (*shudder*). I can barely stomach Kids Bop, but I will in dire circumstances. 2. No backseat driving. Especially if the last time you played “Red Light, Green Light,” you ran on red and stopped on green. (I’m looking at you, Lily.) and finally, 3. If we are within 10 minutes of the house, there... Read More

Sleep deprivation and that fish guy.

22. Twen-ty two. That’s the number of hours I have slept since last Monday. Never in my life have I been so deliriously tired and, as a mom of twins, that’s saying a lot. Last night, my wonderful father-in-law picked me up from the airport at 11:30pm and drove Wy and I the 1.5 hours home. I tried to keep my eyes open. I tried to chat. Around, oh, 20 minutes into the drive, I decided that I would close my eyes but still continue chatting.... Read More

Longing and coffee…

Yesterday I talked about… um, well, if you read it, you remember. Today, I’m going to mention church. What can I say? I’m a multi-faceted human being. Today, our pastor spoke about longing and asked us to think about what we long for. We turned to the person next to us and told them what that was. I leaned my head on Clint’s shoulder and sighed, “Sleeeeep!” He laughed (a quiet church laugh, of course). I wanted... Read More

I was desperate…

I did something to my babies last night that I would’ve never thought I would do; something that I am 100% positive they will hate me for later in life. You see, my babies have been waking up in the middle of the night. Desperate for a full-night’s sleep, I began running through my mind potential reasons why they might be waking up. Like any mother of a non-sleeping baby (or two), I made a mental mommy checklist: Hungry? Sure, hunger... Read More

Sleep? I don’t need no stinking sleep!

Okay, that’s a lie, I totally do. But, I signed on for this whole “mom” thing knowing full well that babies very rarely do what you want and need them to do. Like consistently sleep through the night, for instance. Last week, the boys slept through the night almost every night. In hindsight, this was a cruel trick. I was lulled into a sense of sleep security thinking maybe, just maybe they were going to sleep long stretches from here on out.... Read More

Oh, the tantrums!

It’s time for another installment of “Even good kids turn into fire-breathing beasts sometimes.” Are you so excited? I hope so, because for the crap I put up with today from my four-year-old, at least I could get a giggle out of my blog readers. First, to lay a little groundwork to the story and bring you into how truly unpleasant it was, allow me to briefly describe last night: I fell asleep on the couch around 10, only to wake... Read More

Rough Night

Oh boy am I ever ready for summer to be over. Last night was one of the nights that I wonder why exactly air conditioning doesn’t come standard in most homes here. 10:30pm- The kids were in “bed” which was actually them sleeping on the cool, laminate floor, a fan blowing in their faces. All was well with their little sleeping world and Turk and I headed off to our own sleepyland. 11:30pm- We were still awake. Despite the window and... Read More
